Ryder Cup 2027:
The English Links Week Americans Miss

The centenary Ryder Cup is at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland, from September 17 to 19, 2027 — a hundred years after Samuel Ryder's first match, and only the second time Ireland has hosted. If you are American and you are thinking about being in Europe that week, you have probably already worked out that tickets are the hard part and Limerick is going to be very full.

Here is the thing most American golfers planning that trip do not know: England's east coast has links golf as old and as good as anything in Ireland, it is two hours from London, and almost nobody outside Britain has heard of it. A week there before or after the Ryder Cup is the least crowded, best-value links golf in the country — and if you do not get tickets, it is a better week than staying home.

Where Norfolk actually is

Norfolk is on the east coast of England, north of London, on the bulge that sticks out into the North Sea. Norwich Airport is the local gateway; from London it is under two hours by train or car, and Stansted, Luton and Heathrow all feed in. From Ireland it is a short flight.

Most American golf trips to Britain go north to Scotland or west to Ireland. Norfolk is on the way to neither, which is exactly why it has stayed quiet. The courses are not defended by ballots or by four-figure green fees. They are simply not on the standard itinerary.

What the golf is like

True links, on sand, exposed to the North Sea. Royal West Norfolk at Brancaster is the headline — an 1892 course reached by a tidal causeway that floods at high water, which tells you something about how little has been done to it since. Hunstanton is a championship links that regularly appears in England's top twenty. Royal Cromer sits on a clifftop above the sea with a lighthouse in play. Sheringham runs along the same coast.

If you have played Scotland, the comparison worth making is this: you will pay a fraction of what a Scottish links week costs, you will get on courses without a ballot, and the golf itself is closer than the price difference suggests. What you give up is the famous name.

Why September 2027 specifically

Mid-September is the best golf on this coast. Summer visitors have gone, the turf is fast after a full season, and the light is at its best. It sits outside peak green-fee season.

And the Ryder Cup schedule leaves your mornings open. European afternoons mean nothing meaningful happens before lunch on any of the three match days, so you can play eighteen and be in front of a screen for every session. If you have tickets for Adare Manor, Norfolk works as the week either side. If you do not, it works as the whole trip.

The value comparison

A week of golf in the southwest of Ireland during Ryder Cup week will be priced as Ryder Cup week. Accommodation within reach of Adare Manor is already committed a long way out, and rates reflect it.

Norfolk is not in that market at all. You are booking a normal September on a coast that does not know the Ryder Cup is happening, and paying normal September rates for it. For a group weighing the trip against staying home, that gap is the whole argument.

What a week looks like

Four or five courses across the north and west of the county, one base, short drives between them. Somewhere good to stay — this coast has three Michelin-starred restaurants within twenty minutes of each other, which is not what most Americans expect from rural England. Caddies and clubs arranged, transport handled.

For groups wanting more than that — a course closed for a morning, both coasts across a longer week — that is arranged rather than booked, and it goes through By Arrangement. The straightforward week is still the straightforward week, and most of what we do is exactly that.

How we work

We are based in Norfolk and we play these courses. We book the tee times, the rooms, the transfers and the places to watch the golf as one trip, and we tell you plainly when something is not possible on your dates. We work with a small number of advisors in the United States, and terms are available on request.

Ryder Cup 2027 and Norfolk golf: common questions

When is the 2027 Ryder Cup and where?
Adare Manor, County Limerick, Ireland. Matches run Friday September 17 through Sunday September 19, 2027, with practice days from Monday September 13. It is the centenary edition and the 46th Ryder Cup.

Can I enter competitions at these clubs as a visitor?
Yes. Any current World Handicap System index is accepted, so a US index works on the same basis as a British club member's. Open competitions are the cheapest way to play a top English links in competition conditions.

How far is Norfolk from London?
Under two hours by road or rail. Norwich Airport serves the county directly, and Stansted, Luton and Heathrow are all straightforward connections.

How does Norfolk compare to Scotland or Ireland on price?
Substantially cheaper on green fees and accommodation, with no ballot system for access. The trade-off is name recognition rather than quality of golf.

Is September a good time to play the east coast of England?
It is the best time. Fast turf, quiet courses, low season rates, and the coast at its most photogenic.
