Five miles west of Royal Cromer, Sheringham offers the same clifftop drama with a character entirely its own — most memorably, the North Norfolk steam railway running directly below several holes, the whistle of a passing train an unexpected soundtrack to your round.
Sheringham blends the elevation changes of a true clifftop course with tighter, more strategic fairways than its neighbour at Cromer. James Braid's later refinements show in the bunkering — placed to punish the wayward tee shot rather than simply to look dramatic — and the course rewards a thinking game over raw power.
The signature element is the railway. The Poppy Line, a heritage steam railway connecting Sheringham to Holt, runs along the boundary of several holes, and timing your round to coincide with a passing train is a small, genuine pleasure that visitors consistently mention.
Like the rest of the north Norfolk coast, Sheringham plays best from May through September, with April and October offering excellent value and quieter fairways. The exposed clifftop holes mean wind is a constant factor regardless of season — pack accordingly.
Sheringham pairs naturally with Royal Cromer, just five miles east — many of our guests play both in the same trip, often on consecutive days. It also sits comfortably within reach of Hunstanton for a fuller north Norfolk links circuit.
Our curated itineraries include Sheringham as a flagship stop in several of our North Norfolk routes, including the County Tour and the Grand Tour.
We handle the tee times, transfers and accommodation so you can focus on the golf.
