Planning Advice · 2027 Availability
There is a version of a Norfolk golf trip that most people plan, and a version that most people come back from wishing they'd known about. The difference, more often than not, is timing.
Summer — July and August — is when Norfolk is busiest, most expensive, and most competitive for hotel rooms and tee times. It's also, frankly, not always the best golf. Courses can be firm and sun-baked in dry spells, or soft and slow after summer rain. The courses are never bad, but they're rarely at their absolute best in peak season.
Shoulder season is a different proposition entirely. And with 2027 already beginning to fill up at the properties we recommend, it's worth thinking about now rather than later.
The courses on the north Norfolk coast — Royal West Norfolk at Brancaster, Hunstanton, Royal Cromer, Sheringham — are links and clifftop courses that come alive in certain conditions. Firm, fast turf. A breeze off the North Sea. Low autumn light across the fairways. These are the conditions the courses were designed for, and they occur most reliably in the months either side of peak summer.
The courses are in excellent condition after winter recovery. Visitor numbers are low — you'll often have fairways almost to yourself on a Tuesday morning at Royal Cromer. The weather is genuinely variable, which is part of the point: a crisp, clear March day on the Norfolk coast is one of the finest environments in English golf. Hotels are at their most competitive on price, and availability at The Grove, Titchwell Manor and The Hoste is straightforward rather than something you need to plan around.
The sweet spot for many of our guests. Long daylight hours — you can tee off at 7am and still be playing at 8pm — combined with the best of spring conditions on courses that are running fast and true. Accommodation is filling up earlier each year for this window. For 2027, we'd recommend enquiring now rather than hoping availability holds.
Our favourite months to play, and we say that without reservation. The summer crowds have gone, the courses are in peak condition after a season of play, and the light on the Norfolk coast in late September has a quality that's difficult to describe and impossible to forget. Hotels drop from peak pricing without compromising on service. This is the window the knowledgeable golfer chooses.
Not for everyone — and we'll be honest about that. But for the golfer who genuinely loves links conditions, who wants the course to themselves, who enjoys the idea of a proper post-round fire and a good dinner in a quiet hotel, November in Norfolk has a particular magic. Green fees at their most accessible. Hotels genuinely grateful for the business. And the courses, on the right day, are extraordinary.
The north Norfolk coast has become more sought-after as a golf destination over the past two to three years. The properties we recommend — The Grove in Cromer, Titchwell Manor near Brancaster, The Hoste in Burnham Market — are not large hotels. They fill up. And they fill up earlier each year as word spreads about what this region offers.
We are already seeing 2027 enquiries for the peak spring and summer months. The shoulder season windows — March/April and September/October — are still open, but they won't stay that way indefinitely. The golfers who plan early are the ones who get the dates, the courses and the rooms they actually want.
"The best time to play Norfolk is the time most people haven't thought to book yet. That window is shorter than it used to be."
If you're considering a Norfolk golf trip in 2027, our honest advice is to settle on a window now — even if the full itinerary isn't finalised — and register your interest with us. We can hold provisional tee times at Royal West Norfolk, Hunstanton and Royal Cromer, and check accommodation availability across the properties we work with, before you commit to anything.
There's no obligation in an early conversation. But there's a real cost to leaving it too late.
Tell us your preferred window and group size. We'll check availability and come back to you within 24 hours.
